Waitemata Hunt Club Inc
The Waitemata Hunt has been part of the community in the Rodney District for over 70 years. We are a drag hunt where hounds follow a scent and riders follow the hounds. The jumps in the fence line are about 85cm in height and are prepared with a rail. You can choose to go through the gate or keep at a distance and just watch.
We are out riding (following the hounds) for about 2.5 hours The season runs from March through to the end of May with most of the hunts being on a Sunday. The Waitemata Hunt draws from the communities of Rodney, West Auckland, Waitemata up to Kaipara and involves the farm owners – who generously allow the Hunt to use their properties.
The Huntsman’s primary responsibility is to manage, run and care for the hounds on a daily basis as well as to attend all Hunt meetings with the pack. If you want the thrill of racing over the country side or just the pleasure of being out on your horse somewhere different, then come ride with the hounds. We may be called a Hunt, but it is in name only; nothing is chased or caught.
